Context and lineage
The Hindu account presented by RAOnline tells of Bahadur Puri Swami walking to India’s Godavari River for purification each day. Pleased by his devotion, the goddess appeared near his home so the journey was no longer necessary. A Buddhist account in the same source attributes the spring to Padmasambhava striking the ground, with the clear water expressing liberating knowledge. These are distinct devotional accounts, rather than two parts of one physical history.
Godavari’s spring, spouts and local water management belong to a lived landscape. The kunda should be distinguished from nearby Naudhara and from the distant Godavari River in India.
