Overview
Yunomine’s thermal waters form part of the Kumano pilgrimage landscape. Inns and public baths line a small valley where bathing has served as preparation for worship at Kumano Hongu Taisha.

Experience and orientation
The small creek-side bathhouse and the separate cooking basin show different uses of the same thermal landscape. Keep the designated bathing and food-cooking places distinct.
Context and lineage
In the Oguri Hangan and Princess Terute tradition, Oguri reaches these waters suffering from a devastating illness. Bathing restores him to life and strength. The tourism bureau identifies the account with Tsuboyu and notes its retelling in religious narratives and kabuki. The recovery belongs to the story, not a promise made to present-day bathers.
Yunomine lies where the Akagi-goe and Dainichi-goe pilgrimage routes meet the village. The little Tsuboyu bath beside the creek is a particular heritage component; that status should not be extended to every bath or inn.
