Sri Mariamman Temple on South Bridge Road is a many-shrined Hindu sanctuary in Singapore’s Chinatown. Within the temple, Periyachi Amman represents a fierce form of maternal protection. The Hindu Endowments Board dates the temple’s foundation to 1827, when the immigrant community established a religious home in the settlement.
