Chilkur Balaji Temple

Chilkur Balaji is a temple of Venkateswara outside Hyderabad. Devotees bring many requests here; its modern association with overseas study and work has given it the popular nickname “Visa Balaji.”

The popular name Visa Balaji reflects devotees’ belief that Venkateswara hears prayers connected with journeys abroad. A favorable visa decision remains the responsibility of the relevant authorities.

Circumambulation gives this temple visit its distinctive rhythm. People making requests and those returning in gratitude may be moving through the same shared space; follow the temple’s current arrangements rather than treating the circuit as a race.

Ranga Reddy district’s account tells of a devotee who visited Tirupati each year until illness prevented the journey. Venkateswara appeared in a dream and directed him to a nearby mound. While digging, the man struck a hidden image and, in the story, saw blood. Following a divine instruction to bathe the mound with milk, he uncovered Balaji with Sridevi and Bhoodevi. The temple commemorates that local presence of the deity when travel to Tirupati was no longer possible.

Devotees traditionally make 11 circuits while presenting a request and return for 108 circuits in thanksgiving after an intention is understood as fulfilled. Ask the temple about current crowd arrangements before joining circumambulation.
